Abstract

Pilosocereus robinii is a succulent, columnar-candelabriform tree endemic to Cuba. Its fruits are cactidia that produce about 300 seeds. The seeds measure 1.97 ± 0.08 mm in length, 1.24 ± 0.07 mm in width, and 0.82 ± 0.05 mm in thickness, with a moisture content of 11.52 ± 1.69 %, and possess a folded, peripheral embryo. Within the same batch, photoblastic seeds with physiological dormancy and non-dormant seeds coexist, exhibiting an optimal temperature range of 25 °C to 25/30 °C and a positive response to chemical scarification. The seeds can be stored at room temperature for up to two years without losing viability.
