Abstract

Plants play a crucial role in ecosystem restoration plans. Based on the identification of three key functions: facilitating establishment (nurse species), maintaining reproduction (pollinator-supporting species), and incorporating diasporas (disperser-supporting species), an initial list of 174 species essential to Cuban ecosystems was compiled. The selection and final refinement of these species were conducted through discussion and voting at the 2024 annual meeting of the Cuban Plant Specialist Group. The resulting proposal includes 80 species and 17 genera, valuable for restoring 15 Cuban plant formations.
