Abstract
Casasia clusiifolia is a coastal tree or shrub. Its fruits are berries that can contain between 78 and 172 seeds, with average dimensions of 7.34 ± 0.65 mm in length, 5.72 ± 0.44 mm in width and 1.50 ± 0.19 mm in thickness, a fresh mass of 0.036 ± 0.006 g and a moisture content of 15.39 ± 0.29 %. The embryo is underdeveloped and spatulate, and dormancy is morphophysiological. Germination is photoblastic indifferent and the optimum germination temperature is 25 °C. Acid scarification treatment can eliminate the physiological component of dormancy, thereby synchronizing and accelerating germination. Several traits suggest tolerance to dehydration in its seeds, although the length of time they remain viable is unknown.
