Protium cubense is a tree endemic to Cuba whose fruits are dehiscent drupes with 1-4 seeds. Seeds measure 11.25 ± 0.98 mm in length, 6.72 ± 0.27 mm in width and 4.60 ± 0.30 mm in thickness, with a fresh mass of 0.22 ± 0.07 g, a moisture content of 10.12 ± 0.46 %, and a folded embryo. Within the same seed batch, both non-dormant and physiologically dormant seeds coexist. Germination is photoblastic indifferent, with an optimum temperature of 25/30 °C; it begins around 10 days after sowing and reaches approximately 50 % by 20 days, increasing and accelerating through partial or total scarification of the seed coats. Storage behavior suggests a possible orthodox condition, consistent with the low initial water content.
