Picramnia dictyoneura (Picramniaceae), a new record for Cuba
Keywords:
Cuban flora, Hispaniola, neotypeAbstract
The genus Picramnia in Cuba has traditionally been represented by two species: P. pentandra and P. reticulata. A revision of herbarium specimens collected in eastern Cuba revealed material whose morphological characters do not correspond to the Picramnia species previously recorded for the country. To document this new record for the Cuban flora, protologues, herbarium specimens, and photographs of Caribbean species with reticulate leaf venation were examined, particularly P. reticulata, P. dictyoneura, and P. macrocarpa, as well as their synonyms. Vegetative and reproductive characters of the Cuban specimens were compared with descriptions and available material of these taxa. The results confirm that the Cuban specimens correspond to P. dictyoneura, a species previously known from Hispaniola. A dichotomous key to the three species of Picramnia recorded in Cuba is provided, together with a morphological description of the new record and the designation of a neotype for the name Trichilia dictyoneura Urb.
