Lobelia christii (Campanulaceae), a new record for the flora of Cuba
Keywords:
Cuban flora, Hispaniola, lectotype, Sierra MaestraAbstract
Lobelia christii, a rare species previously considered endemic to Hispaniola, is recorded for the first time for the flora of Cuba. The new record is based on photographs of live plants and on material collected in the Sierra Maestra, Granma province, eastern Cuba, confirmed through morphological comparison with the protologue, type materials, and the available taxonomic literature. The species differs from the remaining Cuban Lobelia by the combination of elliptic-oblong to lanceolate leaves with an incised-dentate margin, a 5-carinate calyx, a yellowish-green corolla and completely glabrous anthers. A key to the Cuban species of Lobelia and a description of the taxon are provided, and a lectotype and an epitype are designated for the name L. christii Urb.
