Leptocereus arboreus, seed propagation sheet

Abstract

Leptocereus arboreus is a succulent, candelabriform tree endemic to Cuba. Its fruits are cactidia that produce between 700-1,500 seeds. The seeds measure 2.48 ± 0.13 mm in length, 1.74 ± 0.10 mm in width, and 0.83 ± 0.09 mm in thickness, with a moisture content of 17.5 ± 3.18 %, and possess a bent peripheral embryo. Within the same batch, photoblastic seeds with physiological dormancy and non-dormant seeds coexist, exhibiting an optimal temperature range of 25 °C to 25/30 °C and a positive response to chemical scarification. The seeds can be stored at room temperature for up to two years without losing viability.
