Leptocereus sylvestris, seed propagation sheet

Abstract

Leptocereus sylvestris is a succulent tree endemic to Cuba. Its fruits are cactidia that produce about 1,000 seeds. The seeds measure 2.72 ± 0.12 mm in length, 1.69 ± 0.15 mm in width, and 0.94 ± 0.09 mm in thickness, with a moisture content of 7.03 ± 1.97 %, and possess a bent, peripheral embryo. Within the same batch, photoblastic seeds with physiological dormancy and non-dormant seeds coexist, showing an optimal temperature of 25 °C and a positive response to chemical scarification. The seeds can be stored at room temperature for up to two years without losing viability.
